The food in Bali is unreal. When I think of a trip there, I get just as excited by the piles of delicious food that I plan on crushing as I do by the incredible surf, scenery, culture, and people that keep me going back. Here at the BT office we talk about food all the time, so we figured we'd share some of our love for Indonesian cuisine and jot down a few of our favourite dishes. Anyone travelling to Bali, try these out.. you'll thank us afterwards.

#1. Nasi Goreng
Fried rice X 100. Literally translates to "fried rice" in Indonesian, but it's so much more than that. Considered the national dish of Indonesia, it's spiced with a bunch of amazing stuff, and usually includes some veggies, shrimp or chicken and comes with a fried egg on top. Best choice for the hungry surfer and will cure any hangover. Chuck some Sambal sauce all over it (you can't miss it, it's on every table in every restaurant) and the plethora of flavours will have you peeing in your boardshorts.

#2. Mie Goreng
The same deliciousness as Nasi Goreng, but with noodles instead of rice. Warning: deciding between fried rice or fried noodles for lunch may be the biggest decision of your day. Never forget the Sambal sauce.

#3. Gado Gado
Steamed veggies covered in tasty peanut sauce. Need I say more? No, but I will.. Usually served with some kind of tasty chips and a boiled egg, these veggies are doused in the tastiest peanut sauce you can fathom. If you like it "saucy", this one's for you.

#4. Ibu Oka Pork
Vegetarians may not be down with this one, but for you meat-lovers, be sure to check out the Ibu Oka pork stand in Ubud (destination #2 on BT's "Bali & Beyond" trip). This small, open-air restaurant serves up some tasty pig, which was actually rated the best pork in the world by famous chef Jamie Oliver. You can order your traditional pork plate, but if you're feeling adventurous, we recommend the "pisah" (mixed plate made up of of meat from different parts of the pig). The spices are amazing and it's cooked just right, so put it in your mouth and smile.

#5. Bintang
Ok, this is beer, but some do consider beer to be a type of food, right? Either way, this beer is delicious and cheap, and you can drink it anywhere. Our favourite Bintang occasions: in the pool after a surf, on the beach at sunset, on the boat while crossing over to the "beyond" part of our trip, or on "the steps" in Kuta. Guaranteed you'll be rocking a Bintang T-shirt by day 4.
