On your marks, get set, GO! The camping Olympics on the stunning uninhabited beach of Haad Yang, in BT Thailand location #2 are coming to an end. Only one event to go: the relay race. The four teams are deadlocked, any one could come out on top. The relay is timed, and there are 6 challenges: the bear walk, spin and sprint, two person wheelbarrow, rice sack hop, crab walk and finish off by chugging a delicious Thai beer. With the possibility of winning some brand new Reef swag, everybody's competitive nature is beginning to shine through.
The first two teams give their best effort, but team 1 struggled with the wheelbarrow and team 2 was slowed by the crab walk. The events seem to be getting harder as everybody is overcome with laughter at the spectacle of the races. Team 3 gathers their composure and puts together a solid time with a set strategy, putting themselves in the lead by a commanding fifteen seconds. With only one team remaining, the stage is set for a classic showdown. Team 4 takes their time, ensuring everyone is set to their best event. The whistle blows, the clock starts, the fastest bear walking female to ever grace Thailand explodes out of the gate, loops around the pole and back to tag the next racer. Spinning rapidly around the stick, she manages to gather her senses and run in a straight line. The wheelbarrow immediately stumbles and everyone thinks it's all over but the duo recovers and quickly makes up for lost time. The rice sack is done to perfection. The time is very close and there is only two people remaining, one boy and one girl. To everyone's surprise, the boy takes off in the crab walk, leaving the girl to do the beer chug. With the crowd jeering endless trash talk, she races over to the can of Chang beer and finishes it noticeably faster than the three boys that did so before her. The clock stops and team 4 wins by 2.3 seconds.
After a glorious day of events and laughter, the night is spent eating barbecued fish, listening to guitar, and fire spinning. Finally we all pass out under the stars, finishing off another successful Beach Travellers Thailand camping trip.
