Most of you have likely heard of the flooding that is currently happening in Thailand. BT trips have not been affected, we are monitoring the situation VERY closely, and have contingency plans in place if Bangkok becomes affected.

Below is some information from reputable sources - please keep in mind that different news media outlets will portray a different view on things, so feel free to check back with us if you are unsure about what you are seeing on TV.  We are in constant communication with our tour-guides and partners in Thailand, getting their first hand account of what is happening.

Flooding in Thailand – October 2011

Canadian Foreign Affairs Report here

Update and advice report from East Asia Travel here

At the moment, Suvarnabhumi Airport, the country's main airport, is perfectly safe, being well protected by dykes and pumps which have been checked and reinforced to safeguard it from flooding.
One of the actions to be taken will be to drain water out to the sea from the area south of Suvarnabhumi airport. The airport itself is surrounded by a 23.5 Km. long, three metre-high earth dyke which is regularly checked, and inside this area, canals drain the water away into six reservoirs. In addition there are two water-pumping stations south of the airport each having four pumps capable of handling 12 cubic metres of water per second
There is a flood prevention plan in place and meetings are ongoing with government agencies to discuss the steps to be taken should the floodwaters reach Bangkok, estimated to happen around about October 13th when the unusually high spring ocean tides may block the waters of the Chao Phraya River from flowing into the sea, causing massive flooding in the capital. Government workers are racing to complete flood walls along the banks of the famous river that winds through Bangkok before runoffs from the north reach Bangkok.

We would also like to remind all our travellers about the importance of carrying proper travel medical, interruption, and cancellation insurance to protect your investment.  If you have not already purchased these products, please contact us at info@beachtravellers.com to receive a free quote.

Even when disaster strikes, Thailand still remains to be the 'Land of Smiles'.

Ladies and gentlemen, the time has come. It’s time to bust out the neon body paint, squeeze into the tightest, brightest outfits you can find, grab a cocktail in a bucket, do some warm-up lunges, and prepare to dance your face off with 10,000 people on the beach...it’s the Thailand Full Moon Party, baby!

Anyone you ask will probably tell you this is one of the biggest and best nights of their lives, and we happen to agree. Us BT guides have been to 1 or 2 of these legendary parties, so here are a few tips from the pros that will help make the FMP one of your most memorable nights ever:

1)    Rest up: take some time off the party train before the big night. Chill out, and get good sleep.Trust us, your body will thank you for it later. There’s no shame in naps!

2)    Hydration: water, Gatorade, banana shakes, gin and tonics, it’s all good; just get it in that body and gear up for a whole lot of booty shaking.

3)    It’s not a sprint: it’s a marathon! If you see the odd person passed out on the sand (see above) it’s probably because they crushed three Thai rum buckets in an hour and hit the proverbial brick wall. Pace is the key!  You want to make it to sunrise, so don’t go balls to the wall as soon as you show up. Share your weapon of choice with friends rather than downing it to free up both hands for fist pumping. Take breaks; grab a buddy for a walk, or chill on a curb and people-watch. You’ve got options!

4)    Ration your cash: 1000 Baht (approx. $33) should do it. We all know how a party night goes when you show up with your entire bank account in your wallet. You have a few stiff drinks and suddenly you’re dishing out drinks to everyone within a five meter radius. Good news for your friends, bad news for your wallet.

Follow these tips, and you’ll be dancing like a champ while others will be smoke-bombing to bed. This is the night of a lifetime, so make the most of it!. Enjoy it, dance your face off, soak up the surroundings, and we’ll see you on the beach!

BT video teaser contest
09/26/11 16:36:13

Over the past few years, we've made a few teaser videos to document BT trips. Lots of hard work went into these productions, and we're proud of 'em. Just like parents of several kids, we find them all unique and we love them all for different reasons, but we don't know which one we love most.

So, we want to hear what you think.

Watch these 3 clips, and in the comment section at the bottom of this blog, tell us which one you prefer, by writing either "Thailand", "Costa Rica", or "Brazil".

We'll randomly select 3 people that commented, and send them each a pair of ''game-changer'' boxers, courtesy of MyPakage - they're guaranteed to put a smile on any dude's face.

Thailand

Costa Rica

Brazil
